NSSDCA ID: PSPA-00165
Availability: Data Identified but not Received
This data set consists of polar gnomonic projections that display the area near the Lander. They exist as 8 x 10 photographic products. Five projections are available. An index (IPL Picture ID, Camera, time azimuth, and elevation) to the projections can be found on pp. 26-27 of "The Mosaics of Mars," NASA Contractor Report 3326, 1980, by E. C. Levinthal and K. L. Jones. The transformation used to produce the projection is a "rubber stretch" algorithm that does not use the point-by-point information necessary to produce a true overhead projection. These products have also been called orthographic projections, but they differ from an orthographic projection in that the projection plane is tangent to the Martian surface and not an infinite distance from the surface. These data have not been received at NSSDC as of this document.
