This data set consists of volume 1 of a two-volume set of books entitled "First Panoramas of the Lunar Surface According to the Material from the Automatic Station Luna-9." It contains photographs obtained from the soft-lander Luna 9 spacecraft at the western edge of the Ocean of Storms (Oceanus Procellarum) on the Moon at 64.5 degrees W, 7 degrees N. Discussions in the book involve the equipment, on-board systems, flight dynamics, results from studies of the panoramas of the lunar surface, mapping of surroundings of the spacecraft, and morphology of the landing area. The individual photographs as well as panoramic mosaics are included. This data set may be viewed at NSSDC or might, by special request, be obtained on temporary loan or as microfiche. Its value is limited by the quality of reproduction in the book. The text is in Russian, however there is an English translation available on microfiche.
