Low Energy Cosmic Rays, Count Rates Summary (SUM1), G-Z Encounter

Availability: At NSSDC, Ready for Offline Distribution (or Staging if Digital)

Time span: 1985-09-08 to 1985-09-21

These data from the Low-Energy Cosmic Ray experiment consist of experimenter-supplied copies of the summary ("SUM1") tapes which contain the counts and accumulation time for 27 rate channels. The data are from the low-energy sensor (ULECA) and include ions and electrons in the energy range 15 keV/e to several hundred keV/e. The averaging interval is one major frame (128 seconds at high bit rate). These data cover the comet Giacobini-Zinner encounter period. Data from the same experiment covering the early part of the mission and the geotail period are in data set 78-079A-03F. Trajectory data for the ICE spacecraft relative to the comet are archived separately as data set 78-079A-00E. Data from the following other experiments on ICE for part or all of the comet encounter period are also archived: Solar Wind Plasma (78-079A-01R), Vector Helium Magnetometer (78-079A-02N), Plasma Wave (78-079A-07D), Energetic Proton (78-079A-08F), and Radio Mapping (78-079A-10D).
