This set of CD-ROMs contains an exact copy of the original Supplemental Experimenter Data Records (SEDR) tapes provided by the Pioneer Venus project to the magnetometer team. The original SEDR tapes contained six different files all stored in IBM binary (EBCDIC) format. The files are: (1) a logistics or tape header file; (2) a spacecraft attitude file; (3) an ephemeris file; (4) a pulse time file; (5) a selected roll reference file; and, (6) a spin period file. In addition to the six original files, the magnetometer team has included their file of corrected pulse times. Excepting this, no effort has been made to process or change the original SEDR data.
All files on the discs are described with detached PDS label files.
Software to convert from the raw SEDR IBM (EBCDIC) data files to ASCII for UNIX (Solaris, SUN/OS, and HP) and IBM/PC is resident on the discs. The source code for the software is also provided to allow for compilation on other operating systems.
There are roughly 400 orbits of data on each CD-ROM in the set. Although the set spans all 5055 orbits of PVO, there are numerous gaps (primarily due to solar occulations, some due to missing data for unknown reasons) in the coverage.
These data are also available on-line from the Planetary Data System at:
