Nuclear Emulsion

NSSDCA ID: 1959-003A-01

Mission Name: Discoverer 2
Principal Investigator:Mr. Robert C. Filz

Two groups of films, arranged horizontally and vertically, were included in the recovery capsule to measure the intensity and direction of cosmic radiation and to distinguish among electrons, protons, and heavier charged particles. A metallic Bismuth detector was designed to register induced changes in its sensors from which changes in neutral density could be derived. No experiment data were obtained because this depended upon recovery of the capsule, and a timing device failure made recovery impossible.
