Mission Name: Gemini 9AThe micrometeoroid collection package was designed to be exposed for 2 to 4 months and to provide data on (1) micrometeoroid cratering effects on selected highly polished surfaces, (2) collection of small micrometeoroids at orbital altitudes by various thin films and soft plastics, and (3) lethal effects of the space environment on selected micro organisms. The micrometeoroid collector consisted of four outer cratering surfaces of highly polished stainless steel. Six small circular depressions were cut into one plate for seeding and space exposure of micro organisms. The experiment was mounted on the Agena target vehicle to be recovered by the crew of a later Gemini light. However, the target vehicle did not achieve orbit and the experiment was lost.
