Mission Name: Gemini 9AThis experiment was mounted on the spacecraft and was designed to obtain information on the flux of micrometeoroids in space, thin film penetration characteristics of micrometeoroids, lethal effects of the space environment on microbiological specimen, and the probability of viable organisms in space. The package contained 24 sample slides of various substances including nitrocellulose film on copper mesh, copper foil, stainless steel, silver coated plastic, lucite, and titanium coated glass. There were also biological exposure samples and sterile samples. The unit had two compartments with opening and locking capabilities which were controlled electronically by the astronauts. Total exposure time of the package was 16 hrs 47 min -- it was retrieved from the spacecraft adapter section during Extravehicular Activity (EVA) for post flight analysis.
