Description

The RMCh-1 Micrometeoroid Detector was designed with the scientific objective of characterizing the quantity and distribution of micrometeoroids in the vicinity of the Moon. The detector consisted of piezoelectric pickups glued to the surface of the spacecraft which were sensitive to impacts by particles 70 nanograms or larger at a velocity of 15 km/sec. The area sensitive to impacts was 1.2 square meters.
