Lander Camera System

NSSDCA ID: 1971-045D-01

Mission Name: Mars 2 Lander
Principal Investigator:Mr. V. P. Selivanov

Description

The Mars 2 and 3 Lander Camera System consisted of two serial imaging cycloramic cameras, separated by 12 cm to provide stereoscopic coverage. Each camera comprised a single photoelectron Multiplier Tube detector and a scanning mirror. The mirror tilted to scan vertically and rotated to scan horizontally, allowing 360 degree monochrome panoramic images. The photometer would measure a single point brightness value at each position, making one pixel of the 500 x 6000 pixel full scan, which was transmitted to Earth.
