Mission Name: Chang'e 1

Description

The stereo camera, in concert with the laser altimeter, is designed to obtain a three-dimensional image of the lunar surface. The camera operates by taking nadir (0 degrees), forward (+17 degrees), and backward (-17 degrees) images of the Moon and combining the overlapping frames to produce stereo images. The camera consists of an optics subsystem, a support framework, a plane CCD array, and a signal processing subsystem. The CCD array consists of three parallel rows, one each for the nadir, forward, and backward views. Image spatial resolution is about 120 m and the swath width is 60 km.
