Laser Altimeter

Mission Name: Chang'e 1

Description

The laser altimeter system is designed to measure the altitude of the spacecraft over the nadir point on the surface in order to produce topographic models. The system consists of a laser transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter emits 150 mJ laser pulses at a wavelength of 1064 nm. The receiver consists of a telescope, detector, and timing apparatus to detect the reflected pulse.
