High Energy Particle Detector

NSSDCA ID: 2007-051A-07

Mission Name: Chang'e 1

The High Energy Particle Detector is part of the space environment monitor system on Chang'e 1. It is designed to analyze protons, electrons, and heavy ions during cruise to the Moon and while in lunar orbit. The detector system comprises 6 sensors and a signal processing subsystem. It can detect protons with energies between 4 MeV and 400 MeV, electrons with energies greater than 0.095 MeV, and heavy ions such as He (13 MeV - 130 MeV), Li (34 MeV - 260 MeV), and C (117 MeV - 730 MeV).
