Neutron Spectrometer (NS)

NSSDCA ID: PSYCHE -03

Mission Name: Psyche

Description

The Neutron Spectrometer (NS) will detect, measure, and map the elemental composition of asteroid 16 Psyche. It uses three helium-3 sensors to detect different energy ranges of neutrons. The instrument is mounted on a 2-meter boom to distance the sensors from background radiation created by energetic particles interacting with the spacecraft and to provide an unobstructed field of view. The instrument team is based at the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University.
