Mission Name: Gemini 8The Agena micrometeoroid collection experiment was designed to study the micrometeoroid content of the upper atmosphere and the near-earth space environment. This experiment provided the first opportunity to expose specially prepared and polished stainless steel surfaces to small particle flux and recover these surfaces for study and analysis. The package for receiving micrometeoroid impacts was installed on the Gemini 8 Agena target vehicle. Exposure of the inner collection surfaces was not accomplished due to the termination of the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) maneuver. However, useful information was obtained from the biological exposure slide. After 4 months of exposure the package was recovered by the Gemini 10 flight crew.
