Mission Name: ORFEUS-SPAS IThe Interstellar Medium Absorption Profile Spectrograph (IMAPS) recorded high-resolution R = 240,000) spectral data of hot stars in the 95 - 115 nm range. IMAPS targeted objects too bright for the ORFEUS telescope spectrometers (TUES and BEFS).
IMAPS was mounted parallel to the optical axis of the ORFEUS telescope, and used the same star acquisition and tracking system as the main telescope. It consists of an objective grating and an Echelle spectrograph.
IMAPS on ORFEUS-SPAS I returned approximately 600 spectral images of 10 targets. The second flight of IMAPS, on ORFEUS-SPAS II, resulted in approximately 3900 spectra of about 29 targets.
