Mission Name: HayabusaThe Light Detection and Ranging Instrument (LIDAR) on Hayabusa uses the time-of-flight measurement of a laser pulse reflected from the surface of asteroid 25143 Itokawa to determine the surface topography. LIDAR used a 1064 nm yttrium-aluminum-garnet-Nd (YAG-Nd) laser. Beamwidth was 0.04 x 0.097 degrees, giving a footprint at 7 km altitude was about 5 x 12 meters. From 10 September to 25 November 2005 4,107,104 shots were fired and 1,665,548 returns were detected.
