Mission Name: JunoThe long-slit Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (UVS), with a spectral range of 68-210 nanometers and spectral resolution of 0.6-1.2 nanometers, was designed to observe and characterize important H2 and H Lyman series emissions from Jupiter’s aurora and absorption signatures of aurora-produced hydrocarbons. Juno UVS is based on the Alice instruments, also far-ultraviolet imaging spectrographs, on board the Rosetta Orbiter and New Horizon spacecraft and the Lyman Alpha Mapping Project on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Objectives include providing context for Juno's particles and fields instruments such as JADE, JEDI, Waves and MAG that study the polar magnetosphere of Jupiter.
