Cosmos 261



Cosmos 261 carried an experiment to study (1) geoactive corpuscles-electrons and protons that are the cause of the northern lights, (2) electrons of super-thermal energy, and (3) changes in the density of the upper layers of the earth's atmosphere during northern lights. This experiment was a joint effort of research institutions and observations of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, the Hungarian People's Republic, the German Democratic Republic, the Polish People's Republic, the Romainian Socialist Republic, The Soviet Union, and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
