Description

Aureol 2 was a Soviet spacecraft launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome aboard a Kosmos rocket. It's purpose was to continue investigations in the Earth's upper atmosphere at high latitudes and to study the nature of polar aurora begun on board the Aureol 1 satellite in 1971.
