NUSAT 1

NSSDCA/COSPAR ID: 1985-034B

Description

NUSAT (Northern Utah Satellite), a joint project between Weber State University and Utah State University, was the forerunner in a new type of world wide industry to build small, simple and low cost satellites for special applications. It was a small satellite to be used to demonstrate a method to evaluate the beams on the Federal Aviation Agency secondary radar systems. The 54.5kg satellite was deployed from a modified GAS canister on the NASA Space Shuttle Challenger, STS-51B, and it re-entered in 1986 after a 20 month life in orbit.
