Meteor 2-16 carried scientific instruments for continuing space research, radio systems for precise orbital measurements, and a radio telemetry system. It also carried equipment for obtaining global images of cloud cover and the underlying surface in the visible and infrared bands. It could use either the memorizing or the live transmission mode.
