Express AM4

Express AM4, a Russian communications satellite, was launched from Baikonur on 17 August 2011 at 21:25 UT by a Proton rocket. Express AM4 was designed to provide communications coverage over Russia and neighboring countries for the next 15 years. The platform carried 63 transponders in C-band, Ku-band, Ka-band and L-band.

Contact was lost with the satellite and with its attached Briz M upper stage about six hours after the pair were launched. Telemetry stopped either during or after the fourth of five planned Briz M upper stage burns planned to occur during a nine-hour maneuver designed to insert the satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit.
