Intelsat 18



Intelsat 18, a communications satellite, was launched from Baikonur on 05 October 2011 at 21:00 UT. The satellite was launched by a Zenit rocket and weighed 3200 kg. Intelsat 18 is equipped with a communications payload consisting of 24 C-band and 12 Ku-band transponders. It will provide a full range of communications services across Asia, Australia, North America and islands in the Pacific Ocean. The satellite will use its on-board engines over the subsequent days to finish circularizing the altitude at 22,300 miles and getting itself positioned at the orbital parking spot of 180 degrees East longitude over the equatorial Pacific. It is expected to become operational in November and will replace Intelsat 701. It has a life expectancy of at least 15 years.
