The Sphinx satellites mission is to provide spaceflight experiment data at or near geosynchronous spacecraft altitudes to determine interaction between space plasma and high-voltage system components required for future spaceflights missions. The Sphinx satellites will be spin-stabilized with spin axis oriented towards the sun. As presently proposed, a single auxillary spacecraft would accompany a primary (Shuttle) interim upper stage (IUS) launch and payload delivery system. As a primary Delta payload, the Sphinx would consist of a dual spacecraft mission. The spacecraft will be launched inot parking and transfer orbits to achieve a highly elliptical orbit with apogee at near-geosynchronous altitude.
