Mars Observer

NSSDCA ID: 1992-063A

Telecommunications Description

Plans for DSN support for Mars Observer called for using one 34 m antenna for 10 hours of daily tracking. The 70 m antennae were used on occasion for additional tracking at higher data rates. Spacecraft ranging and Doppler tracking could be measured whenever the spacecraft was visible from one of the 34 m antennae and the antenna was available; the 70 m antennae were incapable of this due to their lack of X-band uplink equipment. Radio occultations could be observed utilizing either the 34 m or 70 m antennae.
