RCA-SATCOM 2

NSSDCA/COSPAR ID: 1976-029A

Description

RCA-B, the second of a series of RCA-GLOBCOM commercial communications satellites, was launched into a synchronous transfer orbit from the Eastern test range. The Delta launch vehicle performed nominally, placing the spacecraft and its apogee boost motor (ABM) into the desired transfer orbit. The desired synchronous transfer orbit permitted the propulsion systems to meet the mission's objective. This objective was to place the spacecraft into a stationary synchronous orbit while retaining sufficient stationkeeping propulsion to meet the mission's lifetime requirements.
