MARISAT 3

Description

The MARISAT satellites provided satellite channels to the U.S. Navy and world-wide commercial shipping at sea for ship-to-shore and shore-to-ship communications. The spacecraft was spin-stabilized with a despun, earth-oriented antenna. The spacecraft contained an independent, fully redundant repeater operating on UHF, L to C, and C to L bands. The spacecraft weighed 665 kg and was placed into a synchronous near-equatorial orbit at 72.5 degrees E.
