Anik-E1 was a Canadian communications satellite launched from the Kourou Space Center in French Guiana by an Ariane booster rocket. It was placed in a geostationary orbit at 111.1 deg W over the eastern part of the Pacific ocean.
Anik E1 was used primarily for business telecommunications services, while Anik E2 was a broadcast communications satellite carrying the bulk of Canada's television signals.
