Paksat 1R, a Pakistani communication satellite, was launched from Xichang on 11 August 2011 at 16:15 UT by a Long March 3B/E rocket. The craft weighed approximately 5200 kg and will replace the aging Paksat 1. Paksat 1R will provide communications and broadcasting services to Pakistan and neighboring regions for at least 15 years. The satellite carries 18 Ku-band and 12 C-band transponders and will be stationed at 38 degrees East longitude. Paksat 1R will enter service after testing of its engineering systems and communications payload.
