Eutelsat W3C, a European communications satellite, was launched from Xichang on 07 October 2011 at 08:21 UT by a Long March 3B rocket. The satellite will provide new capacity for broadcasting, telecommunications and broadband services across Central Europe, Africa and Indian Ocean islands. It carries 56 transponders, 53 in Ku-band and 3 in Ka-band, with an end-of-life power of 12kW. Eutelsat W3C will be positioned at 16 degrees East longitude, replacing three Eutelsat satellites currently at that location. It has a design life of more than 15 years.
