Apstar 7, a Chinese communications satellite, was launched from Xichang on 31 March 2012 at 10:27 UT by a Long March 3B rocket. The satellite weighed 5054 kg. It will provide broadcasting and telecommunications services with twenty-eight C-band and twenty-eight Ku-band transponders. The satellite service area includes Asia, Middle East, Africa, Austria and partial Europe in the C-band as well as China, Middle East, Central Asia and Africa for DTH and VSAT transcontinental broadcasting and communication services in the Ku-band. Apstar 7 will replace APStar 2R currently located at 76.5° East Longitude orbital position and is expected to have a minimum of 15 years lifetime.
