NSSDCA ID: ARDUSAT1
COSPAR ID: 1998-067DA
ArduSat 1 is a 1U (10 x 10 x 10 cm) CubeSat which was conveyed to the International Space Station (ISS) by the Japanese HTV 4 spacecraft. ArduSat 1 is designed to serve as a platform on which students and amateur space enthusiasts can conduct experiments in space.
Both AuduSat 1 and its sister spacecraft, ArduSat-X, are identical in design and were deployed simultaneously, along with Pico Dragon, from the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM or "Kibo") utilizing the Small Satellite Orbital Deployer (J-SSOD) and the JEM Remote Manipulator System (JEMRMS) on 19 November 2013 at 12:18 UTC.
ArduSat 1 has an on-board computer powered by Auduino, an open-source platform for controlling instruments. Numerous experiments were included on the spacecraft, including cameras, ozone and CO2 sensors, a magnetometer, a Geiger counter, and temperature probes. The expected operational lifetime of ArduSat 1 is 3-7 months.
