NSSDCA ID: PICODRAGN
COSPAR ID: 1998-067DB
Pico Dragon is a 1U (10 x 10 x 10 cm) CubeSat which was conveyed to the International Space Station (ISS) by the Japanese HTV 4 spacecraft. The 1 kg satellite is a joint project between the Vietnam National Satellite Center and the Japanese space agency JAXA. The satellite was designed to capture images of the Earth, collect space environment data, and test communication systems.
Pico Dragon was deployed, along with AuduSat 1 and ArduSat-X, from the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM or "Kibo") utilizing the Small Satellite Orbital Deployer (J-SSOD) and the JEM Remote Manipulator System (JEMRMS) on 19 November 2013 at 12:18 UTC.
Power for the spacecraft is provided by a 3.7 V 1450 mAh lithium-ion battery and by two 40 x 80 mm solar cells, providing 2.3 W of power. The main payload is a camera which compresses images in JPEG format. Images are transmitted whenever so commanded by ground station operators.
