This spacecraft was the first of a series designed to study the environmental phenomena that vary significantly within a 24-h period such as severe storms, oil spills, forest fires, water quality, snow cover, flooding, forst, and erosion. The spacecraft functions as an earth resources and meteorological satellite. SEOS was built based on OAO-C technology for attitude control and ATS 6 technology for power systems and orbit control. The spacecraft was equipped with a large aperature scanning telescope (LAST), and advanced atmosphere sounder and imaging radiometer (AASIR), and RBV camera.
