Project Data Management Plan (PDMP) Description

This spacecraft does not have a PDMP as such because it was launched prior to the time when PDMPs were required. However, the Memorandum of Understanding between NASA and ESA, and the ISEE Project Office plans, called for the generation of two sets of "common data pool tapes" containing summary records of key physical parameters derived from measurements made by selected experiments on ISEE-1 and ISEE-3 respectively. These tapes were used to catalog physical phenomena, to determine the need for correlative studies, and as the basis of the ISEE project contribution to the IMS. Following a proprietary period of one year, copies of these tapes as well as other reduced data records were archived at NASA's National Space Science Data Center and the World Data Centre for Rockets and Satellites, from where these data were made available, upon request, to interested scientists. Following the re-entry of ISEE-1 and 2 in 1987, a special effort was undertaken to archive at the NSSDC high-quality, high time resolution data about particles, fields and waves for specific time periods deemed to be of interest to the scientific community. For ISEE-3/ICE these special archival periods are (1) the early years of the mission (8/12/78 - 2/17/80), (2) the period when ISEE-3 was in the earth's magnetotail (10/15/82 - 12/25/83), and (3) the Giacobini-Zinner comet encounter (9/10/85 - 9/14/85).
