Telecommunications Description

Direct contact between the satellite and the ground stations were possible for ten of fifteen orbits per day: five from Japan and five from Australia. Command plans were sent to the satellite daily (except Sundays). Data were transmitted from the spacecraft as it passed overhead at the main ground station at KSC. Both stored data and real-time data was telemetered to the ground. Generally the satellite operated at the high bit rate. The NASA DSN supported both spacecraft tracking and S-band data acquisition and recording.
