NEAR Eros Descent Image

[NEAR descent image of asteroid Eros]

NEAR Shoemaker took this image of asteroid 433 Eros from a range of 3,773 feet (1.15 kilometers). The image is 177 feet (54 meters) across. The large rock at lower left is 24 feet (7.4 meters) across. The large boulder rests upon the surface with some overhang, while some of the smaller boulders appear partly buried by finer loose material.
