Plasma Wave Electric (16-Channel) and Magnetic Field (8-Channel)G-Z Encntr Data

NSSDCA ID: SPIS-00007

Availability: At NSSDC, Ready for Offline Distribution (or Staging if Digital)

Time span: 1985-09-10 to 1985-09-14

Description

These experimenter-supplied data from the Plasma Wave experiment on ICE consist of 2-second data samples of calibrated Wave Electric [16 channels, 17.8 Hz to 100000 Hz; in (volts/meter)/square-root(Hz)] and Magnetic [8 channels, 17.8 Hz to 1000 Hz; in nT/square-root(Hz)] spectrum analyzer data for the comet Giacobini-Zinner encounter period. The data files consist of header lines containing the year and day of year (January 1 = Day 1), the file starting and ending times in milliseconds from the start of the day, and bit rate and antenna mode flags, followed by 16 channels or 8 channels of spectrum analyzer data, with associated time tags in milliseconds from the start of the day. In the case of the magnetic spectrum analyzer data, there is only one channel sampled at a time, and the rest of the values are padded with zeroes. This data set does not contain any spacecraft position information. Trajectory data for the ICE spacecraft relative to the comet are archived separately as data set 78-079A-00E. Data from the following other experiments on ICE for part or all of the same period are also archived: Solar Wind Plasma (78-079A-01R), Vector Helium Magnetometer (78-079A-02N), Low-Energy Cosmic Rays (78-079A-03E), Energetic Proton (78-079A-08F), and Radio Mapping (78-079A-10D).
