Athens Moon Tree

A sycamore was planted on 20 July 1976 on the grounds of the District 4 headquarters of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on East State Street in Athens, Ohio.

Unfortunately the sycamore that was planted was not a Moon Tree. A day before the event was held, the original tree died at the Marietta Nursery (a Division of Forestry facility, since closed). A second sycamore, which was not a Moon Tree, was quickly found and planted in its place for the ceremony. That tree reportedly still stands at the District 4 Headquarters.
