Two loblolly pine Moon Trees were planted on January 16, 1976, on the lawn of the governor's mansion in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The trees were planted in observance of Arbor Day by the Louisiana Forestry Commission. The ceremony took place at 1:30 p.m. with Mrs. Elaine Edwards, forester James L. Culpepper, and acting state forester D. L. McFatter planting the seedlings. The picture above is from the January 17, 1976, Baton Rouge Advocate. The article above is from the January 16 Baton Rouge State Times. The later history and current status of the trees are not known.
