Cascades Park Moon Tree

Tallahassee, Florida

[Cascades Park Moon Tree] [Cascades Park Moon Tree Plaque]

Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), planted at Cascades Park in downtown Tallahassee, Florida. In the picture above, from 2019, the Moon sycamore is the leftmost tree closest to the center of the picture. It is marked by a plaque. The planting date for the tree is unknown at this time.

The park was closed in 2006 for some time (until at least 2011) for remediation due to soil contamination attributed to a gas plant. The tree was within the borders of the superfund site, but apparently survived and appears to be in good health.

The tree is located in the west end of the park, in the northwestern corner of Centennial Field. It is near the intersection of South Monroe St. and East Bloxham St. The image below shows a birds-eye view of the park from 2009 with the rough area of the trees in Centennial Field circled.
