Savannah Moon Tree

Savannah, Georgia

According to the caption from the picture of the Macon, Georgia Moon Tree planting in the September, 1976, issue of "Georgia Forestry" (below left), a Moon Tree was planted in Savannah, Georgia. Based on the information from the 18 January 1976 Athens Banner-Herald (below right), the tree must be a sycamore (Platanus occidentalis). (The two loblolly pines were planted in Athens and Macon.) Whether the tree was actually planted, its subsequent history, and its location are unknown.
